Intentions To Murder : The Murder Of Mona Krotine
Ramona "Mona" Krotine was attending a work party the night of March 20, 2003. Her friends last spoke with her around 2am March 21, when she said she was heading home because she had things to do the next day. She was a 53-year-old wife and mother of three grown kids, two boys and a girl. Her daughter, Jennifer, was home from college for the weekend and had been waiting up for her mom in the living room. Jennifer fell asleep after midnight and didn't wake up till the next morning, when she saw her father in the kitchen getting ready for work/having breakfast.
Her father, Jeff, said her mother hadn't come home that night. Jennifer thought that was strange, but assumed her mother had crashed with friends after the party (the party was an annual work event). Jeff went to work and kept a meeting with his accountant that morning, but Jennifer started calling around to look for her mother.
Her mother's friend and manicurist called that morning -- Mona had missed her appointment, which was atypical. The manicurist immediately thought something was wrong when Jennifer told her that Mona hadn't come home the night before. Jennifer called her mother's brothers, who lived in Cleveland, and Mona's brother Greg started driving around town looking for her. They called the cops, but the police said it hadn't been 24 hours yet, so they couldn't file a missing persons report yet.
That night, Greg found Mona's car in a commuter train parking lot. He called 911 and asked them to send someone out, but the 911 dispatcher said because it wasn't 24 hours yet, they couldn't. Greg looked in the car and saw blood stains in the back seat. He opened the trunk (I can't find anything anywhere saying how he got the presumably locked trunk open) and found her body. She had been beaten and shot.
